中国教育国际交流协会（China Education Association for International Exchange，CEAIE）成立于1981年7月，于1991年在中华人民共和国民政部注册，是中国教育界开展对外教育合作与交流的全国性非营利机构，接受教育部和民政部的业务指导和监督管理。中国教育国际交流协会1994年在联合国注册为国际非政府组织，2006年7月获得“联合国经社理事会特别咨商”地位，2009年获得“联合国教科文组织咨商地位”，2011年成为联合国学术影响力项目成员。
截至2016年，中国教育国际交流协会在中国31个省、自治区、直辖市及16个市设有地方协会，团体会员单位共616家，包括各级各类教育机构，在国内拥有项目合作伙伴单位1,000多个，与50余个国家和地区的170多个权威教育组织和团体建立了长期稳定的交流合作关系。
中国教育国际交流协会AFS国际文化交流项目（CEAIE-AFS）是中国教育国际交流协会与AFS国际文化交流组织（AFS Intercultural Programs, Inc.）合作开展的国际教育文化交流项目。以青少年为主要目标人群，培养具备国际视野与跨文化交流能力的未来杰出人才，从而促进全球对话，推动世界和平。
AFS国际文化交流组织成立于1947年，是以中学师生、大学生跨文化交流为主体的志愿性多边国际组织，总部设在美国纽约，在全球共有59个AFS伙伴组织，项目分布在 103个国家和地区，具有联合国教科文组织特别咨商地位。
1981年，AFS国际文化交流组织通过我驻美使馆与原国家教委外事局展开合作，次年，原国家教委外事局委托中国教育国际交流协会负责执行该项目，成为CEAIE-AFS项目，于1982年派出首批中学教师，1997年开始派出中学生，2001年开始接待学生来华交流，并于2010年组建跨文化研究团队，推广国际理解教育。
三十余年来，中国教育国际交流协会在全球与近40个国家和地区、在国内与26个省市的单位合作开展CEAIE-AFS项目，项目总人数达7000余名，为国家培养了一批批熟练掌握非通用语、理解文化差异、具备国际视野的青年人与知华友华的国际学生，得到广大学生、家长及学校的高度认可，成为我国基础教育领域具备一定社会影响力与知名度的人文交流项目之一。
Introduction to AFS China
AFS is a global community of more than 50 partner organizations that support intercultural learning, principally through exchange programs. AFS began as the American Field Service during World Wars I and II, when nearly 5,000 young men volunteered as ambulance drivers. In 1947, AFS organized its first secondary student exchanges with the aim of building international understanding by supporting people from different parts of the world in sharing their cultures. Nearly seven decades later, AFS has transformed the lives of millions of students, families, and individuals worldwide. Almost 13,000 individuals participate in AFS exchanges and nearly 44,000 AFS volunteers support AFS programs each year.
AFS programs have been in China for 35 years. Authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education, administrated by China Education Association for International Exchange, AFS China is a well respected intercultural program for high school students and teachers in the basic education arena in China. It offers various programs including school based intercultural programs, teaching assistant, summer camp, educator exchange and community service of one year, a semester or short-term exchanges. Program participants live in the volunteer host families of host country and study or provide service in the local schools or community. So far, AFS Chinahas cooperates with more than 40 countries all over the world and having participantsmore than 7,000. In 2014, AFS China has become the Affiliate Partner to AFS Intercultural Programs.
